Tennessee looks for sixth straight win over in-state rival
Nov 20, 2007 - 2:26 PM Middle Tennessee (1-2) at No. 7 Tennessee (3-0) 7:30 pm ESTKNOXVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) - Seventh-ranked Tennessee concludes its four-game homestand to open the season on Tuesday, looking to defeat in-state opponent Middle Tennessee for the sixth consecutive time.
The Volunteers, 5-1 all-time against the Blue Raiders, remained unbeaten on Friday with an 89-75 victory over Prairie View A&M. Sophomore forward Tyler Smith scored 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting to lead the Vols.
The three Smiths lead a balanced UT scoring attack. Tyler Smith leads the Vols at 13.0 points per game, senior guard JaJuan Smith is averaging 12.3 and sophomore guard Ramar Smith 12.0 Tennessee is averaging 90.0 points on just over 50 percents shooting.
Since Thompson-Boling Arena opened for the 1987-88 season, 4,992,748 fans have watched Tennessee play in the arena. The Vols will surpass the five-million mark Tuesday.
Middle Tennessee will be playing its fourth game in six days. Junior guard Kevin Kanaskie's 12.7 points per game leads the Blue Raiders.
