Florida hosts in-state rival Florida State

Nov 23, 2007 - 3:28 PM Florida St (4-2) at No. 24 Florida (5-0) 8:00 pm EST

GAINESVILLE, Florida (Ticker) -- Florida will look to exact a measure of revenge against its fiercest rival.

The 24th-ranked Gators aim to avenge a loss from last season when they host Florida State on Friday.

The Gators, who went 35-5 en route to winning their second straight national championship, were defeated in Tallahassee, 70-66, last season.

However, most of the members on Florida's current team were not around for that contest, as five of the Gators' top seven leading scorers this year are freshman.

Sophomore Marreese Speights leads the Gators, scoring 16.6 points per game while freshman Nick Calathes has added 15.4 points per contest.

Junior Walter Hodge - the only returning player that has started a game from last year - scored 17 points in last season's loss to the Seminoles and has scored 11.6 points per game this season.

Speights scored 20 points Tuesday as Florida coasted to a 102-51 rout of North Florida.

Florida State bounced back with a 78-48 win over Georgia State on Tuesday after two consecutive losses.

The Gators lead the all-time series 38-19 and are playing the sixth game of a 12-game homestand to open the season.
