Virginia Tech looks to cool off red-hot Butler

Nov 23, 2007 - 4:16 PM No. 23 Butler (4-0) at Virginia Tech (2-0) 9:30 pm EST

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Ticker) -- Virginia Tech looks to cool off No. 23 Butler's red-hot shooting when the two teams face off Friday in the semifinals at the Great Alaska Shootout.

Butler set a tournament record, making 17 3-pointers en route to a 79-65 victory over Michigan on Wednesday. Butler, which attempted 32 shots from the arc, hasn't converted that many 3-pointers since hitting 20 against Cleveland State on February 8.

The Bulldogs, who finished eighth in the country in 3-pointers made last season, are making 43.9 percent of their shots from long range and have one more 3-pointer this season than they do 2-pointers.

Pete Campbell led the way Wednesday for Butler, hitting 6-of-11 from the arc and finishing with 18 points while A.J. Graves hit 5-of-10 3-pointers, contributing 17 points.

Freshman Malcolm Delaney scored 18 points off the bench to lead Virginia Tech to victory in their first game of the tournament, a 69-52 win over Eastern Washington on Thursday.
