North Carolina, Kentucky continue rivalry

Dec 1, 2007 - 2:53 PM No. 2 North Carolina (6-0) at Kentucky (4-1) 2:00 pm EST

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (Ticker) - Second-ranked North Carolina hopes to stay unbeaten Saturday when it faces Kentucky.

It marks a matchup of the nation's two winningest programs. Kentucky has 1,952 wins, 32 more than North Carolina. But the Tar Heels have won the last three matchups and lead the all-time series, 19-10.

North Carolina enters this contest in the midst of a hectic road schedule.

The Tar Heels already have played two games in Las Vegas (Old Dominion and Brigham Young), visited Ohio State on Wednesday and will travel to Penn on December 4 and Rutgers on December 16. It is the longest stretch the Tar Heels have been away from home since the 1996-97 season when the team went 36 days between home games.

The Tar Heels have been up to the challenge thus far, including a 66-55 win over the Buckeyes on Wednesday. The Tar Heels played without starting point guard Ty Lawson due to sprained right ankle. He is uncertain for this contest.

Kentucky has won three in a row since its shocking 84-68 loss to Gardner-Webb on November 7. The Wildcats are coming off Tuesday's 62-52 win over Stony Brook.
