Wisconsin captures 28th straight home win vs. Wofford

Dec 4, 2007 - 5:53 AM MADISON, Wisconsin (Ticker) -- Jason Bohannon made the most of his limited opportunities.

Bohannon scored 10 of his 14 points in the first half as No. 23 Wisconsin cruised to a 70-43 victory over Wofford on Monday.

Joe Krabbenhoft scored 12 points and Marcus Landry added 11 and nine rebounds for the Badgers (6-1), who extended their streak of consecutive home wins to 28 games - the third-longest active streak in the nation.

That streak seemed safe early, as Wisconsin countered a game-opening 5-0 run by Wofford with a 13-0 burst of its own. Bohannon opened the spurt with one of his two 3-pointers in the game.

"We were 0-for-5 on our first five," Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan said. "We had some pretty good practices coming in, just doing some things, trying to correct and get better at what we try to do and I just went small early. I just figured, OK let's go small early and then we'll sub and do some things with the bigs and I think that helped."

Overall, the sophomore guard took three shots, making them all including a follow shot that made it 31-13 with 4:33 left in the first half.

Trevon Hughes added all eight of his points in the opening 20 minutes for the Badgers, who held the Terriers (3-2) to 30.4 percent (7-of-23) shooting in the first half en route to taking a 38-20 lead.

Points remained tough for Wofford to get after intermission, finishing 26.9 (14-of-52) in failing to score at least 45 points for the first time this season.

Bohannon also did his damage at the free-throw line, converting 5-of-6 as the Badgers finished 17-of-27.

"I think because he's not going to beat a lot of people off the dribble, he's going to have to get to the free-throw line by doing the little things, a guy reaching in on him, a guy over his back, whatever, so however he gets there, we don't care," Ryan said of Bohannon. "We just like him to make them when he does."

Brian Butch finished with nine points and seven rebounds and Michael Flowers scored eight for Wisconsin, which shot 47.2 percent (25-of-53) despite going just 3-of-13 on 3-pointers.

The percentage was helped by the Badgers insistence to go inside, finishing with a 40-16 advantage in points in the paint.

"We got some looks inside, we got a lot of touches in the paint ... the closer to the basket the higher the percentage and you try to get it there but the defense is trying to keep it from getting there," Ryan said. "So that's always a constant battle. Us and everybody else in the country is trying to get it to the post in time. Some teams will look to shoot more threes, because that's their offense but when they aren't there, you better have something else."

Drew Gibson scored 16 points on 5-of-15 shooting and Junior Salters added 14 for the Terriers, who finished with 14 turnovers, leading to 21 points for the Badgers.
