Gonzaga set for toughest test of season

Dec 5, 2007 - 2:25 PM No. 6 Washington St (7-0) at No. 19 Gonzaga (7-1) 11:00 pm EST

SPOKANE, Washington (Ticker) -- It will be a familiar situation for Gonzaga and Washington State, but circumstances will not be so familiar.

When 19th-ranked Gonzaga hosts No. 6 Washington State on Wednesday night, it will be the first time in the 141-game history of the rivalry that both will be ranked in the top 25.

In a rivalry that dates back 100 years, the Cougars lead the all-time series, 96-45. Washington State snapped a seven-game losing streak to Gonzaga in the last meeting by posting a 77-67 victory.

The Bulldogs, who have won three straight games since losing to Texas Tech on November 24, have been led by Matt Bouldin. The sophomore guard is averaging 14.4 points and 4.5 rebounds this season.

Bouldin scored 19 points and junior guard Jeremy Pargo added 23 as Gonzaga edged Connecticut, 85-82, on Saturday in the Hartford Hall of Fame Showcase at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

Senior guard Derrick Low scored just nine points Friday, but hit back-to-back 3-pointers down the stretch to help keep Washington State undefeated with a 67-64 triumph over Baylor.

Low has averaged a team-high 14.6 points and 1.4 steals this season, while junior center Aron Baynes has pulled down five rebounds per game.
