Surging Arizona visits Nevada-Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (Ticker) -- No. 19 Arizona plays the first of two consecutive games against Mountain West Conference foes on Wednesday when it faces Nevada-Las Vegas.

Sparked by freshman Jarryd Bayless, who scored 13 of his 21 points during a decisive second-half run, Arizona posted a 69-50 victory over Fresno State on Sunday. Chase Budinger and Jordan Hill also combined for 31 points and 14 rebounds.

Bayliss, a 6-3 guard, is averaging team highs of 20.0 points and 4.7 assists and is connecting on 48 percent (20-of-42) of his 3-point attempts. Budinger is second on the team in scoring (17.0), rebounding (5.0) and assists (3.7).

Arizona plays San Diego State on Saturday at the Fiesta Bowl Classic in Tucson.

UNLV has been off since cruising to an 84-71 victory over Fresno State on December 8. Rene Rougeau scored 19 points and Joe Darger added 17 in the Runnin' Rebels' third straight win.

The Runnin' Rebels average 75.2 points and holds the opposition to 41 percent shooting.

The Rebels lead the all-time series, 9-5, including a 6-0 mark against the Wildcats in Las Vegas. Arizona posted an 89-75 home win over UNLV last season.
