Georgetown faces Memphis in battle of unbeatens

Dec 22, 2007 - 2:03 PM No. 4 Georgetown (8-0) at No. 2 Memphis (9-0) 12:00 pm EST

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Second-ranked Memphis should receive one of its toughest tests of the season when it faces No. 4 Georgetown on Saturday.

Playing in Conference USA, Tigers coach John Calipari tried to stiffen Memphis' non-conference competition. In addition to Saturday's game, the Tigers are scheduled to face three more top 25 teams in Arizona, Gonzaga and Tennessee during the season.

"This is a game that we need to see where we are," Calipari said. "If we're where we need to be, it's going to be a heck of a game. If we're not, we'll get that picture too."

Junior guard Chris Douglas-Roberts leads Memphis in scoring at 16.7 points per game. Freshman guard Derrick Rose adds 15.7 points per contest.

Memphis has beaten the Hoyas only once in seven games and that came in the 1983 NCAA Tournament when Keith Lee and the Tigers defeated Patrick Ewing and Georgetown, 66-57.

Georgetown is facing a ranked opponent for the first time this season.

Roy Hibbert, Georgetown's 7-2 senior center, averages 12.8 points and 7.1 rebounds. Sophomore forward DaJuan Summers averages 11.6 points and 6.4 rebounds, while junior guard Jessie Sapp averages 10.1 points and 3.8 assists.
