Tennessee faces Xavier in matchup of top 25 teams

CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- No. 12 Tennessee aims for its sixth straight win Saturday when it faces No. 24 Xavier.

The 12th-ranked Volunteers are coming off an 86-73 victory over UNC Asheville on Wednesday, a game in which senior guard Chris Lofton set a new school record for career 3-pointers made with 349.

Lofton leads Tennessee in scoring at 15.3 points per game, followed by senior guard JaJuan Smith (14.8) and sophomore forward Tyler Smith (13.2). The Volunteers are 10-1 for the second time under third-year coach Bruce Pearl.

The Musketeers had their seven-game winning streak snapped last Saturday with a 77-55 loss at Arizona State.

Xavier, which has six players averaging double figures, has won 14 consecutive games at home. Senior guard Drew Lavender and junior swingman B.J. Raymond are averaging 12.3 points, while junior swingman C.J. Anderson and sophomore Derrick Brown each average 11.4 points.

Tennessee leads the all-time series 9-4, including a 71-69 victory at home in the 2004-05 season, which was the Muskeeters' first under current coach Sean Miller.
