CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Ticker) - No. 25 Rhode Island will take a seven-game winning streak into the championship game of the Islander Invitational on Saturday.

The Rams, who haven't been ranked since the 1998-99 season, defeated Eastern Michigan in Friday's opening round. Georgia Southern advanced with a 78-69 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday.

Senior forward Will Daniels and junior guard Jimmy Baron each scored 18 points for Rhode Island, which has made a drastic improvement since it went 6-22 during the 2004-05 campaign.

Junior forward Kahiem Seawright and sophomore guard Keith Cothran also scored 16 points apiece for the Rams, who had not won seven in a row since December of 2003.

The Eagles dropped their season opener to Florida State, but have won nine of their last 10 games.

Willie Powers and Louis Graham are the only two players averaging in double figures for Georgia Southern, scoring just over 13 points per game.
