Tennessee makes first-ever trip to the state of Washington

Dec 29, 2007 - 2:38 PM No. 12 Tennessee (11-1) at Gonzaga (9-3) 4:00 pm EST

SEATTLE (Ticker) - Making its first trip to the state of Washington in school history, No. 12 Tennessee will look for its seventh straight win as they meet Gonzaga in the Battle of Seattle on Saturday.

The Volunteers stretched their winning streak to six games with an 82-75 victory at Xavier on December 22. J.P. Prince, a sophomore transfer from Arizona, scored a career-high 23 points to lead Tennessee in the victory.

The win allowed the Vols to win 11 of their first 12 games for the second time in three seasons under coach Bruce Pearl. A key to the Vols' success this season has been their unselfishness, as they lead the nation in assists per game with 21.

Tennessee should get all it can handle from the Bulldogs, who lead the West Coast Conference in scoring defense (61.6 points per game) as well as field goal percentage defense (.382).

Junior guard Jeremy Pargo, Gonzaga's leading scorer, posted a career-high 28 points but received little help in a 72-68 loss to Oklahoma at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City on December 20. No Bulldog besides Pargo scored more than eight points.

This game pits two of the winningest coaches in college basketball as Gonzaga coach Mark Few's career winning percentage of .800 (220-55) is second among all active Division I coaches while Pearl's .782 (374-104) ranks third.
