Memphis faces another tough test vs. Arizona

Dec 29, 2007 - 3:03 PM No. 18 Arizona (9-2) at No. 2 Memphis (10-0) 10:00 pm EST

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) - Second-ranked Memphis faces its a second consecutive top-25 foe on Saturday when it hosts No. 18 Arizona.

Chris Douglas-Roberts paced Memphis with 24 points and eight rebounds as it passed its biggest test of the season thus far with a solid 85-71 victory over then-No. 4 Georgetown last Saturday.

Douglas-Roberts had scored just five points against Middle Tennessee State before managing only four against Cincinnati in his previous two games.

The junior guard got back on track against Georgetown, hitting 7-of-13 shots from the floor and scored seven straight points for the Tigers to turn a narrow one-point advantage into an eight-point lead early in the second half.

Douglas-Roberts leads the Tigers, averaging a team-high 17.4 points while adding 5.4 rebounds per game and is just five points shy of becoming the 43rd player in Memphis history to score 1,000 points in his career.

Memphis is likely seeking revenge against Arizona, which handed the Tigers their last regular season loss during a 79-71 setback on December 20, 2006. Since the setback, Memphis has won 29 consecutive regular season games.

Despite the absence of legendary coach Lute Olson, who is taking a leave of absence this season, Arizona has won six straight games - including a 74-58 victory over San Diego State last Saturday.

The Wildcats shot a blistering 54.9 percent from the field against San Diego State and rank 19th in the nation, making 49.4 percent of their shots this season.
