North Carolina takes on Valparaiso in inaugural meeting
Dec 30, 2007 - 2:34 PM Valparaiso (10-2) at No. 1 North Carolina (12-0) 7:30 pm ESTCHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Top-ranked North Carolina looks to remain undefeated this season when it hosts Valparaiso on Sunday.
Tyler Hansbrough scored 26 points and Wayne Ellington added a career-high 23 as North Carolina steamrolled to a 106-70 victory over Nevada on Thursday.
However, the win didn't come without a loss as junior guard Bobby Frasor was lost for the season after tearing his left ACL while trying to make a steal near the sidelines in the second quarter.
"You sort of lose the thrill (of the win) when you see a kid like Bobby Frasor, who's a little gym rat, who does everything in the world to make himself the best player he can possibly be and thinks about the team first every time," North Carolina coach Roy Williams said.
Frasor was averaging just 3.2 points and 2.1 assists per game. Valparaiso lost just its second game of the season last Saturday, enduring a 68-58 setback at Wisconsin. Samuel Haanpaa scored 16 points to pace Valparaiso.
Haanpaa, who made a school-record 10 3-pointers against Chicago State on December 15, is averaging 11.7 points.
This is the first meeting between the schools.
