North Carolina tries to stay unbeaten

Jan 19, 2008 - 2:07 PM Maryland (11-7) at No. 1 North Carolina (18-0) 3:30 pm EST

CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Top-ranked North Carolina hopes to find things a bit easier at home than on the road when it hosts Maryland in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup Saturday.

The Tar Heels have been pushed in their two conference road games, winning by a combined a three points. They coasted to a 93-62 rout of North Carolina State in their lone home game in ACC play.

It has been an easy time at home for the Tar Heels, who have won their nine games by almost 30 points per contest.

North Carolina (18-0, 3-0 ACC), which is off to its best start since the 1985-86 team began 21-0, is looking for its first 4-0 start in conference play since 2000-01.

The Terrapins (11-7, 1-2) haven't won at North Carolina since 2002-03, losing three in a row by an average of 23.0 points.

Maryland is coming off its first conference win, a 71-64 home victory on Tuesday over Wake Forest.

North Carolina has won five of the last six meetings between the teams.
