Louisville, No. 16 Marquette meet in key Big East tilt

Feb 4, 2008 - 2:25 PM Louisville (16-6) at No. 16 Marquette (16-4) 7:00 pm EST

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) - Louisville and No. 16 Marquette square off on Monday, looking to stay within striking distance of first-place Georgetown in the Big East.

The Cardinals (16-6, 6-3 Big East) and Golden Eagles (16-4, 6-3) trail the Hoyas by two games and neither team can afford to fall further behind.

Marquette has won three straight, including Saturday's 75-60 victory at Cincinnati. It was the first conference road win for the Golden Eagles after losses of 15, 20 and 26 points.

Sophomore forward Lazar Hayward averages 13.7 points to lead Marquette, which is 12-0 at home.

Louisville is just 3-2 in its last five games, but is coming off an 87-50 rout of Rutgers on Saturday. It was their largest margin of victory since joining the conference three years ago.

Terrence Williams averages 11.3 points to lead five players who average in double figures for Louisville, which has won five of the last six meetings against Marquette.
