Lopez, Stanford aim for sixth straight win

Feb 7, 2008 - 3:14 PM Oregon (13-8) at No. 9 Stanford (18-3) 10:00 pm EST

PALO ALTO, California (Ticker) -- Coming off an emotional win, Brook Lopez and No. 9 Stanford aim to avoid a letdown against Oregon on Thursday in a Pac-10 Conference contest.

The Cardinal, who have already matched last season's win total, will look for a sixth straight victory after squeaking out a 67-65 overtime win at then-No. 9 Washington State on Saturday.

Lopez, who scored a career-high 31 points in a win against Washington on January 31, shot just 4-of-16 from the field but led the Stanford with 18 points.

The win vaulted the Cardinal (18-3, 7-2 Pac-10) into the top 10 for the first time since 2002-03.

Lopez is a big reason for their hot play. The 7-foot sophomore, who was ruled academically ineligible for the first nine games of the season, is averaging 22.6 points and 8.6 rebounds in his last six games.

Lopez and Stanford face an Oregon team that has not won on the road in more than a month.

The Ducks (13-8, 4-5), who snapped a four-game skid with a 79-63 win over Oregon State on Saturday, have not won away from home since a 84-74 win over Arizona on January 5.

However, the Cardinal cannot take them lightly. Oregon, which is averaging 80.3 points, posted a 71-66 victory over Stanford in the first meeting of the season on January 13 in Eugene.

Overall, Stanford holds an 84-83 edge in the all-time series and has won 10 of the last 13 meetings.
