No. 8 Georgetown looks to remain alone atop Big East

Feb 16, 2008 - 11:27 AM No. 8 Georgetown (20-3) at Syracuse (16-9) 12:00 pm EST

SYRACUSE, New York (Ticker) -- Georgetown will look to remain alone atop the Big East Conference standings on Saturday against Syracuse.

The Hoyas (20-3, 10-2) hold a one-game lead over Louisville, but Connecticut, Notre Dame and Pittsburgh all are within striking distance.

Georgetown is coming off a controversial 55-53 victory over Villanova on Monday, when Jonathan Wallace made two free throws with one-tenth of a second to play after being bumped by Villanova's Corey Stokes 70 feet from the basket.

"I'm glad it went our way," Georgetown coach John Thompson III said.

The Orange (16-9, 6-6) have lost two straight, including Wednesday's 89-78 loss at South Florida. The Bulls snapped a 10-game losing streak with the victory.

Senior center Roy Hibbert, who is expected to be a lottery pick in the NBA draft, leads the Hoyas at 13.2 points and 6.8 rebounds.

Freshman forward Donte Greene averages 17.9 points for Syracuse, which is 12-4 at home.

When the teams met earlier this season, Georgetown pulled out a 64-62 overtime win on January 21.
