No. 1 Memphis looks to stay unbeaten against UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Ticker) - The victories continue to pile up for the nation's top-ranked and only undefeated Division I college basketball team.

Memphis extended its regular-season winning streak to 53 games on Wednesday with a 68-59 victory over Houston, rallying from its first halftime deficit since December 4.

The Tigers will look to extend the streak Saturday against Alabama-Birmingham in a Conference USA game.

Memphis (24-0, 10-0 Conference USA) has an average victory margin of 20.2 points overall and 21.9 in conference games. Junior guard Chris Douglas-Roberts leads the Tigers in scoring at 16.9 points per game.

The Blazers (17-7, 7-2) are 9-2 in their last 11 games and have won two straight, including a 69-60 victory at Rice on Wednesday.

Junior swingman Robert Vaden leads UAB at 20.8 points per game. Sophomore forward Walter Sharpe averages 14.2 points and 6.8 rebounds for the Blazers.

The teams will meet again in Memphis on March 8.
