No. 7 Texas hosts No. 22 Texas A&M in key Big 12 game

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) -- No. 7 Texas looks to climb back into a first-place tie with Kansas on Monday when the Longhorns host 22nd-ranked Texas A&M in a key Big 12 Conference contest.

Texas (21-4, 8-2) has won five consecutive conference games, including a 82-77 victory at Baylor on Saturday. It was the Longhorns' 22nd straight victory over the Bears.

The Longhorns and Aggies (20-5, 6-4) will be for the 213th time in a series that dates to 1917. Texas has dominated recently, winning 34 of the last 41 meetings but suffered an 80-63 win at Texas A&M road on January 30.

Josh Carter recorded a double-double for the Aggies with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Texas never led in the contest, trailing by as many as 22 points in the first half, and shot just 34 percent.

Sophomore guard D.J. Augustin averages 18.8 points and junior guard D.J. Abrams 17.5 for the Longhorns. Sophomore swingman Damion James contributes 13 points and 10.6 rebounds for Texas, 13-1 at home this season.

Texas A&M needs a win keep alive its conference title hopes. The Aggies had a five-game winning streak snapped on Saturday with a 59-54 home defeat to Oklahoma State.

Carter, a junior swingman, averages 13.1 points for Texas A&M.
