Connecticut chases 10th straight win

Feb 19, 2008 - 12:59 PM DePaul (10-14) at No. 13 Connecticut (20-5) 7:00 pm EST

STORRS, Connecticut (Ticker) -- After a thrilling victory on Saturday, Connecticut is looking for considerably less excitement in its next game.

The 17th-ranked Huskies will go for their 10th straight win when they host struggling DePaul in a Big East Conference game Tuesday.

UConn (20-5, 9-3 Big East) was taken to the limit Saturday, winning in overtime when junior guard Craig Austrie hit a 14-foot runner with less than a second remaining to defeat conference cellar dweller South Florida, 74-73.

The Huskies, who lead the conference with 47.2 rebounds and 8.7 blocks per game, won despite the Bulls holding a 39-29 advantage on the boards. South Florida also blocked 12 shots.

"We stayed with it, and that's the difference between this year's team and last year's team," UConn coach Jim Calhoun said. "I totally believe that there are some special (things) at play and with six games to go, we will see what happens."

Junior guard A.J. Price led UConn with 23 points.

DePaul, which defeated South Florida on February 9 to snap a four-game skid, lost again Tuesday to Louisville, 88-68.

Dar Tucker had 22 points for the Blue Demons, who are just 1-4 in the conference on the road, with their lone win coming in their first Big East road contest against St. John's on January 12.
