Butler hosts Drake in mid-major showdown

Feb 23, 2008 - 12:59 PM No. 18 Drake (23-3) at No. 8 Butler (25-2) 5:00 pm EST

INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- As a part of "Bracketbuster" Saturday, eighth-ranked Butler hosts No. 18 Drake in a battle of mid-major conference leaders.

Butler has won nine straight games and is coming off a 51-46 victory over Illinois-Chicago on Wednesday, clinching the Horizon League regular-season title.

Butler attempted just 10 shots from inside the arc in the win, going 13-of-37 from the 3-point line. A.J. Graves had 14 points to pace Butler.

Drake, which had won 21 straight games earlier this season, has dropped two out of three after a 72-71 setback to Bradley on Tuesday. Jeremy Crouch made the game-winner for the Braves with 11 seconds to play.

Josh Young led Drake with 23 points in the loss, and the sophomore leads the team in scoring at 16.2 points per game.

Despite the recent slump, Drake has still clinched the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championship for the first time in 37 years.

Butler is 4-2 all-time against Drake, but the two teams have not met since 1972-73 season.
