Krzyzewski eyes win No. 800 when Duke visits NC State

Mar 1, 2008 - 11:09 AM No. 6 Duke (24-3) at Nc State (15-13) 12:00 pm EST

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Mike Krzyzewski tries to become the sixth men's coach in NCAA history to reach 800 career wins when No. 6 Duke visits North Carolina State on Saturday.

Krzyzewski moved within one win of the milestone on Thursday, when Duke (24-3, 11-2 ACC) posted a 71-58 victory over Georgia Tech. Gerald Henderson and DeMarcus Nelson each scored 15 points to lead the Blue Devils, who made just 2-of-15 shots from 3-point range - their worst performance from beyond the arc this season.

"I wasn't even aware of how many wins it was, but we're going to want it just as bad regardless of what win it was for him," Duke guard Jon Scheyer said. "Obviously, that gives us a little something extra, but we know going into NC State on Saturday it's a huge game, no matter what."

Krzyzewski is on the verge of joining Bob Knight, Dean Smith, Adolph Rupp, Jim Phelan and Eddie Sutton as the only men's coaches to reach the 800-win plateau.

The milestone also would add to the long list of accomplishments the Hall of Fame coach already has achieved during his 28-season tenure at Duke, including three national championships, 11 ACC regular-season crowns, 10 conference tournament titles and 12 National Coach of the Year awards.

North Carolina State (15-13, 4-10) likely will have a difficult time against Duke. It enters the game following a 72-62 loss to Florida State on Wednesday, its sixth consecutive setback.
