Kent State aims to continue dream season vs. Bowling Green

Mar 1, 2008 - 11:04 AM No. 24 Kent St (23-5) at Bowling Green (12-14) 12:30 pm EST

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (Ticker) -- Having already climbed into the regular-season top 25 for the first time in school history, Kent State looks to close in on its third Mid-American Conference crown on Saturday, when it meets Bowling Green.

The Golden Flashes (23-5, 11-2 MAC) entered the rankings for the second time in school annals after their impressive 65-57 road win over then-No. 20 Saint Mary's last Saturday.

The only other time Kent State appeared in the top 25 was in the final 2001-02 poll, when it reached the round of eight in the NCAA Tournament.

Junior guard Al Fisher scored 28 points last Saturday for the Flashes, who held the Gaels without a basket for more than six minutes.

Kent State may need to win the conference tournament in order to gain a berth in this year's NCAA Tournament as the MAC has not received an at-large bid since 1999.

However, the Flashes - winners of six straight - should be advised not to overlook the Falcons (12-14, 6-7), who have won three consecutive home games against nationally ranked opponents.

Bowling Green snapped a three-game slide with an 81-65 victory over Detroit last Saturday. Reserve junior guard Brian Moten scored 18 points and freshman guard Joe Jakubowski added a career-best 17 for the Falcons.
