North Carolina goes for sixth straight win

Mar 1, 2008 - 11:28 AM No. 2 North Carolina (26-2) at Boston College (13-13) 3:30 pm EST

CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts (Ticker) - Second-ranked North Carolina looks to continue its winning ways and keep pace atop the Atlantic Coast Conference when it visits struggling Boston College on Saturday.

The Tar Heels (26-2, 11-2 ACC) are coming off an 89-73 victory over Wake Forest on Sunday for their fifth straight win.

North Carolina is tied for first place in the conference with Duke (11-2) with three games left - including a showdown at the Blue Devils on March 8.

Wooden Award candidate Tyler Hansbrough had 29 points but a season-low five rebounds in Sunday's win. The junior forward, who was named the ACC Player of the Week for a record-tying seventh time Monday, is averaging 23.4 points and 10.5 rebounds for the Tar Heels.

North Carolina, which ranks second in the nation in scoring at 90.1 points per game, has been without point guard Ty Lawson for the past six games due to a sprained left ankle, but may not need him against BC.

The Eagles (13-13, 4-9) have lost three straight games and nine of their last 10, including a 67-48 setback to Virginia Tech on Tuesday. Tyrese Rice scored 15 points and leads the team with an average of 20.4 points per game.

If Boston College loses two out of its last three games, it will have its first losing season since going 11-19 during the 1999-00 campaign.

The Tar Heels, who have won the last three meetings with the Eagles, are 12-0 away from home this season.
