No. 5 Texas looks to get closer to Big 12 title

LUBBOCK, Texas (Ticker) - No. 5 Texas can take another step toward the Big 12 regular-season title on Saturday against Texas Tech.

The Longhorns (24-4, 11-2) lead second-place Kansas by a game with three to play. The game with the Red Raiders (15-12, 6-7) is the last regular season road contest for Texas.

The Longhorns have won eight consecutive games and defeated Texas Tech earlier this season, 73-47. Texas has defeated the Red Raiders in 19 of the last 21 meetings.

Sophomore guard D.J. Augustin is averaging 19.3 points for the Longhorns, who are 5-2 on the road on conference games and 7-2 overall. Junior guard A.J. Abrams averages 16.6 points, while sophomore swingman Damion James is at 12.9 and 10.5 rebounds for Texas.

The Red Raiders are 7-7 in their last 14 games. Texas Tech was blown out by Texas A&M, 98-54, on the road on Wednesday.

Senior guard Martin Zeno leads the Red Raiders at 15.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Junior guard Alan Voskuil averages 13.3 points for Texas Tech, which is 5-1 in home conference games and 12-2 overall.
