Texas eyes record win total

Mar 4, 2008 - 1:19 PM Nebraska (17-10) at No. 9 Texas (24-5) 7:30 pm EST

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) - The loss of National Player of the Year Kevin Durant to the NBA was supposed to weaken Texas. Instead, the Longhorns are as good as they ever have been.

Ninth-ranked Texas tries to tie a pair of impressive school records on Tuesday when they host Nebraska.

The Longhorns (24-5, 11-3 Big 12) have 15 home wins this season - one short of tying the the 1932-33 and 2000-2001 teams that totaled 16 during the regular season. Additionally, a win on Tuesday would allow Texas to match its school record of 25 regular-season wins, set by 2005-06 Longhorns.

Texas missed out on an opportunity to tie those marks on Saturday in a 83-80 road loss to Texas Tech. D.J. Augustin, the conference's second-leading scorer at 19.7 points per game, tied his season high with 30 points in the setback.

The Longhorns, who have won six straight against Nebraska (17-10, 6-8), will try to remain perfect in 10 games played here against the Cornhuskers.

Nebraska saw its three-game winning streak come to an end in Saturday's 77-63 road loss to Oklahoma State. Aleks Maric and Steve Harley each had 17 points for the Huskers, who are 3-3 against ranked teams this season.
