Georgetown hosts Louisville for Big East title

Mar 8, 2008 - 11:48 AM No. 13 Louisville (24-6) at No. 10 Georgetown (24-4) 12:00 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Big East regular-season title is on the line Saturday when No. 13 Louisville faces No. 10 Georgetown.

The Cardinals and Hoyas are tied for first place with identical 14-3 conference records. It is only the second time in the history of the conference that two tied teams will play each other on the last day of the regular season for first place.

In 1988, seventh-ranked Pittsburgh won at No. 12 Syracuse in the only other head-to-head meeting for the league's regular-season crown.

The teams met on February 9 with Louisville posting a 59-51 win. In that game, the Cardinals erased a 10-point deficit with a 15-4 run in the first six minutes of the second half.

Georgetown leads the all-time series, 4-3, and has won four of the last five meetings. The Hoyas have won 20 consecutive games at home, including all 15 this season. Georgetown has 14 straight home victories over conference opponents.

Roy Hibbert, the Hoyas' 7-2 senior center, is averaging 13.6 points and 6.4 rebounds. Hibbert is averaging 15.6 points in his last five games.

Sophomore forward DaJuan Summers is averaging 11.3 points and 5.6 rebounds for Georgetown, which hasn't played since extending its winning streak to four games with a 70-68 overtime victory at Marquette last Saturday.

Louisville has won nine consecutive games and 15 of its last 17. The Cardinals haven't played since posting a 68-54 home victory over Villanova on Sunday.

Senior center David Padgett leads four Cardinals averaging double figures with 11.7 points per game. Junior forward Terrence Williams averages 11.3 points and 7.5 rebounds for Louisville, which is 6-2 in road conference games and 8-2 overall.
