Purdue aims to improve conference tourney seed on Sunday
Mar 9, 2008 - 1:36 PM No. 15 Purdue (23-7) at Michigan (9-20) 4:00 pm EDTANN ARBOR, Michigan (Ticker) - Even though the Big Ten regular-season title is out or reach, Purdue still has plenty to play for on Sunday.
The 15th-ranked Boilermakers attempt to close out their regular season on a high note when they visit Michigan on Sunday.
With their 80-77 overtime loss to Ohio State on Tuesday, Purdue (23-7, 14-3) lost any hope it had to claim the regular-season conference title. But a win here and a loss by Indiana at Penn State, would give the Boilermakers the second seed in next week's conference tournament.
Historically speaking, entering the conference tournament as the No. 2 seed has been a good thing, as that team has come away victorious five times in the tournament's 10-year history. On the other hand, the No. 3 has never won and has been eliminated in the first round six times.
Purdue, which posted a 65-58 win over Michigan earlier this season, has lost three straight here. Michigan (9-20, 5-12) enters attempting to snap a three-game losing streak.
