Foster, hot-shooting Vanderbilt take on Arkansas

Mar 14, 2008 - 1:58 PM No. 17 Vanderbilt (26-6) at Arkansas (20-10) 3:15 pm EDT

ATLANTA (Ticker) - No. 17 Vanderbilt looks to continue its offensive momentum when they face Arkansas in the quarterfinals of the Southeastern Conference tournament on Friday.

The Commodores shot 67 percent (33-of-49) in a 93-82 first round victory over Auburn on Thursday. It was just Vanderbilt's second conference tournament win in its last four seasons.

"Our offense flowed pretty much the whole game," Commodores coach Kevin Stallings said. "We were able to get stops when we needed to and were able to expand our lead."

Freshman A.J. Ogilvy had 27 points on 12-of-13 shooting and SEC Player of the Year, Shan Foster, added 26, making 6-of-9 shots from the arc.

The second seed from the SEC West Division, Arkansas lost five of its last eight games - but did have a home win over Vanderbilt on March 1.

The Razorbacks have also had recent success in the SEC tournament, making it to the finals last season before losing to Florida.

Sonny Weems leads the team in scoring at 14.9 points per game and the senior had 20 in the win against the Commodores last season.

The winner will move on to face the winner of South Carolina and Tennessee in the semifinal round on Saturday.
