Wisconsin, Michigan State try to advance to Big Ten finals

Mar 15, 2008 - 1:37 PM No. 19 Michigan St (25-7) at No. 6 Wisconsin (27-4) 1:40 pm EDT

INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) - Despite a lack of success as the Big Ten tournament's top seed, No. 6 Wisconsin managed to book a place in the semifinals.

Wisconsin will now meet No. 19 Michigan State in the semifinals on Saturday.

The Badgers picked up their eighth straight win on Friday, posting a 51-34 victory over Michigan. However, it was just their first win in school history as the top seed in the Big Ten tournament.

Wisconsin (27-4) was the top seed in 2002 and 2003 but failed to win a game in the tourney after being ousted in the quarterfinals by Iowa and Ohio State, respectively.

Joe Krabbenhoft led Wisconsin with 12 points and seven rebounds against the Wolverines, who were limited to the lowest point total in the tournament's history.

Drew Neitzel scored a season-high 28 points Friday, leading fourth-seeded Michigan State to the semifinals with a 67-60 victory over fifth-seeded Ohio State.

The Spartans (25-7) are looking to win their first Big Ten title since 2000.
