Texas A&M goes for third straight win over Lamar

Nov 17, 2006 - 3:29 PM Lamar (1-0) at No. 12 Texas A&M (1-0) 8:00 pm EST

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Ticker) - No. 12 Texas A&M tries to make it three wins in a row over Lamar on Friday in the Shelby Metcalf Classic.

Due to the last two outcomes between these programs, the all-time series is tied at 7-7. The Aggies have a big edge here since they have lost just once in seven meetings.

Joseph Jones and Antanas Kavaliauskas both scored 16 points apiece as Texas A&M routed Prairie View A&M, 81-49, a week ago.

Kavaliauskas made 7-of-8 shots and four steals and Chinemelu Elonu chipped in 12 for the Aggies, who held their opponent to 31 percent (14-of-45) shooting from the field.

Darren Hopkins netted 21 points and James Davis added 14 and seven rebounds as the Cardinals posted a 72-64 victory over Texas Southern last Saturday. Lamar Sanders collected 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Cardinals, who survived 23 turnovers.

The Aggies have won their last eight regular-season games.
