Jones leads Texas A&M in rout of Lamar

Nov 18, 2006 - 3:54 AM COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Ticker) -- The series between Texas A&M and Lamar may be neck-and-neck, but the Aggies proved once again why it has not been a contest here.

Joseph Jones scored 14 of his 19 points in the first half and Josh Carter added 12 as the 12th-ranked Aggies rolled to a 94-60 victory over the Cardinals in a non-conference matchup.

Jones connected on all six field-goal attempts and Carter made three steals for Texas A&M, which won its ninth consecutive regular-season game.

Texas A&M (2-0) had split its last 14 meetings with Lamar but dominated the Cardinals here, posting a 6-1 record. Friday's contest had a similar conclusion but was decided shortly after it started.

The Aggies scored the first 11 points and then tallied 14 more after a basket by Lamar to build a 25-2 cushion just seven minutes in.

Texas A&M owned a 57-23 halftime advantage on the strength of 64-percent (21-of-33) shooting and turning 14 turnovers into 23 points.

Dominique Kirk, who went 4-of-5 from the arc, had 12 points for the Aggies, who held the Cardinals to an abysmal 22-percent (6-of-27) in the first half.

Brandon Chappell scored 16 points and James Davis added 14 but committed seven turnovers for Lamar (1-1), which missed all 14 of its 3-pointers in the opening half.

Texas A&M owns a three-game winning streak against Lamar.
