Connecticut, Central Arkansas battle for first time

HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) - Connecticut and Central Arkansas cross paths for the first time Friday.

The 19th-ranked Huskies opened their season with a 53-46 win over Quinnipiac a week ago.

Freshman Jerome Dyson scored 16 points and Jeff Adrien added 14 and 16 rebounds for Connecticut, which shot just 30 percent (17-of-56) from the field.

Freshman center Hasheem Thabeet collected 11 boards and seven blocks for the Huskies, who held their opponent to an abysmal 26 percent (16-of-62) shooting mark and dominated the glass, 51-31.

The Bears suffered their first loss of the campaign, a 69-64 shortcoming to St. Bonaventure on Tuesday. Durrell Nevels had 16 points and Nate Bowie chipped in 13 for Central Arkansas.

The Huskies are 18-2 in their first game of the season at the Hartford Civic Center under Jim Calhoun.
