Davidson hopes to bounce back after first loss

Nov 21, 2008 - 11:24 AM Winthrop (1-2) at No. 21 Davidson (2-1), 7:00 p.m. EST

DAVIDSON, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Stephen Curry has done everything for Davidson, but even he could not keep it undefeated.

Curry and the 21st-ranked Wildcats look to bounce back from their first loss when they host Winthrop on Friday.

The junior guard scored a career-high 44 points on Tuesday but Davidson was defeated, 82-78, by No. 14 Oklahoma, snapping the school's 21-game regular-season winning streak.

It was the third career 40-point game for Curry, who is averaging 35.3 points and 7.3 assists per game.

Davidson (2-1) will need its supporting cast to step up as it has only one other player averaging in double figures. Andrew Lovedale is second on the team at 12.0 points per contest.

Winthrop (1-2), which has made four straight NCAA Tournament appearances, has lost back-to-back games and may struggle in a rebuilding season. None of its starters are seniors.

Justin Burton scored 15 points in the Eagles' 72-58 loss to Akron on Tuesday and the sophomore leads the team in scoring at 11.3 per game.
