Georgetown, Wichita State face off in Old Spice Classic

Nov 27, 2008 - 9:55 AM Wichita State (2-1) at No. 16 Georgetown (2-0) 2:00 p.m. EST

ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- Georgetown looked like the 16th-ranked team in the country last time out after struggling to a season-opening win against Jacksonville.

The Hoyas play Wichita State in the first round of the Old Spice Classic on Thursday.

Following an unimpressive 71-62 victory over the Dolphins, Georgetown beat down Drexel on Saturday behind 20 points and eight rebounds from freshman Greg Monroe.

One of the more highly touted recruits in the country, the 6-11 freshman made 7-of-9 from the field and all six of his free throw attempts as the Hoyas cruised to an 81-53 win.

Five players average in double figures for Georgetown, including a pair of sophomores, Chris Wright and Austin Freeman.

The Shockers bounced back from their first loss with a 65-44 triumph over Centenary on Monday. They lost to UMKC, 66-63, last Wednesday.

Garrett Stutz led Wichita State with 22 points while Toure' Murry added 15 points and six rebounds. The pair are the only two Shockers who currently average double figures in points through three games.

The winner will advance to face either 12th-ranked Tennessee or Siena in the semifinals on Friday.
