Xavier aims for sixth straight win

Nov 29, 2008 - 11:25 AM Miami, Ohio (2-2) at No. 20 Xavier (5-0), 4:30 p.m. EST

CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Off to its best start in 11 years, No. 20 Xavier looks to win its sixth straight contest when it hosts Miami, Ohio on Saturday.

The Musketeers are coming off a tournament title in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off last weekend, posting victories over Missouri, Virginia Tech and then-No. 12 Memphis.

The 5-0 start is the best since Xavier had the same record during the 1997-98 campaign and the Musketeers have not opened a season with six straight wins since 1996.

Derrick Brown leads a balanced attack, averaging 10.6 points per game as the Musketeers have eight players averaging at least 6.0 points per game. Brown had only two points in Xavier's 63-58 victory over Memphis on Sunday.

Xavier should not look past Miami, Ohio, which lost by five at UCLA earlier this month and defeated the Musketeers, 59-57, at home last season.

Kenny Hayes scored 20 points to lead the Red Hawks to a 55-37 triumph at Wright State in their most recent contest on Monday.
