Georgetown faces cross-town rival American

Dec 6, 2008 - 11:20 AM American (4-3) at No. 18 Georgetown (4-1) 1:00 p.m. EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- An emphatic victory is exactly what Georgetown needed to bounce back from its first loss.

The 18th-ranked Hoyas try to make it two decisive wins in a row on Saturday when they host American.

Georgetown dropped a 90-78 decision to then-No. 12 Tennessee in the semifinals of the Old Spice Classic on November 28, suffering its first setback.

The Hoyas wasted no time rebounding, throttling Maryland, 75-48, in Sunday's third-place game of the tournament.

Austin Freeman led the way with 18 points and six rebounds and DaJuan Summers scored 14 for Georgetown, which shot 53 percent (26-of-49) from the field.

It was a rare matchup between the schools that are separated by 13 miles, meeting for just the third time since 1980. The last matchup took place when Maryland won in the regional semifinals of the 2001 NCAA Tournament.

The Hoyas are even closer to American, which literally sits right down the street.

While the Eagles are located three miles away from Georgetown in Washington, D.C., they have not enjoyed the same success. American enters the game after suffering back-to-back losses, including a 57-52 setback against Mount Saint Mary's on Monday.
