Florida hopes to end recent woes against Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (Ticker) -- Winners of two national titles in the last three years, Florida has had trouble proving it is the best team in its state.

The 21st-ranked Gators look to earn the bragging rights on Sunday when they visit Florida State.

Florida has lost two straight games and three of four to Florida State, which posted a 65-51 victory at Florida last season. The Seminoles defeated the defending national champion Gators, 70-66, on December 3, 2006 before Florida went on to claim its second title.

The Gators are coming off a 73-58 victory over Florida A&M on Tuesday. Nick Calathes is averaging 16 points and 6.4 assists to lead the Gators.

Florida State is coming off its first loss, a 73-59 setback at Northwestern on Wednesday. The Seminoles were outscored, 40-23, in the second half.

Toney Douglas is averaging 19.3 points to lead Florida State.
