Memphis, Georgetown aiming to impress

Dec 13, 2008 - 11:29 AM No. 15 Memphis (5-1) at No. 19 Georgetown (6-1) 2:00 p.m. EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Memphis and Georgetown may be ranked among the Top 25, but neither team has claimed a win to write home about.

One squad will come away with an impressive victory on Saturday when 15th-ranked Memphis visits No. 19 Georgetown.

The Tigers started the season with four straight double-digit wins but stumbled against then-unranked Xavier on November 23 in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off championship game. Memphis made only 33 percent (18-of-55) of its shots form the field and shot 15-of-30 from the free-throw line.

The Tigers bounced back during their last game, throttling Marist, 100-61, on December 2. Freshman Tyreke Evans, the team's leading scorer, had 24 points, six rebounds and four assists, hitting 10-of-13 shots from the floor after making 4-of-16 against Xavier.

The Hoyas opened the season with a trio of wins against overmatched opponents.

Georgetown's winning streak ended on November 28 as it failed its first test, dropping a 90-78 decision to then-No. 12 Tennessee in the semifinals of the Old Spice Classic.

The Hoyas have rebounded with three straight wins against lesser opponents, including a 100-38 drubbing of Savannah State on Monday.
