The Citadel hope to catch Michigan State peeking ahead

Dec 17, 2008 - 11:16 AM The Citadel (5-5) at No. 22 Michigan State (6-2) 8:00 p.m. EST

EAST LANSING, Michigan (Ticker) -- Michigan State cannot afford to look ahead if it wants to come away with a victory in a "trap game."

With a huge matchup against a Top-5 team looming, the 22nd-ranked Spartans host the Citadel on Wednesday.

Following a disappointing 98-63 loss to top-ranked North Carolina, Michigan State has bounced back with a pair of lopsided wins against lesser opponents. After claiming a 16-point victory against Bradley, the Spartans throttled Alcorn State, 118-60, on Saturday.

Chris Allen poured in 20 points, Kalin Lucas had 16 and Raymar Morgan and Delvon Roe scored 13 apiece as Michigan State collected the second-most points in school history.

Before the Spartans can turn their focus to a meeting with fifth-ranked Texas on Saturday, they'll have to get past the Citadel, which has lost two straight games after winning back-to-back contests.

Cameron Wells scored 15 points and Demetrius Nelson added 14 as the Bulldogs dropped a 79-61 decision to UC Davis on Monday.

The Citadel trailed by 15 points at halftime after allowing UC Davis to hit 77.8 percent (14-of-18) of its shots from the field in the first half. The Bulldogs made only 22-of-54 shots (40.7 percent) while the Aggies finished shooting 64.1 percent (25-of-39) from the floor.
