Syracuse tries to rebound from stunning loss

Dec 17, 2008 - 11:15 AM Canisius (3-6) at No. 11 Syracuse (9-1), 7:00 p.m. EST

SYRACUSE, New York (Ticker) -- It took a shot from well-beyond half court to hand Syracuse its first loss. However, the Orange do not have much time to dwell on the defeat.

The 11th-ranked Orange look to bounce back when they host Canisius on Wednesday.

Syracuse suffered its first setback to Cleveland State, 72-69, as Cedric Jackson banked in a heave from his own 3-point line as time expired on Monday.

The shot followed a furious comeback for the Orange, who tied the game with 2.2 seconds remaining on Arinze Onuaku's layup following a missed shot. Jonny Flynn had cut the deficit to 69-67 on a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left and Syracuse forced a turnover on Cleveland State's next possession.

Flynn leads Syracuse in scoring at 18.1 points per game.

Canisius has dropped three straight games, including Saturday's 74-46 setback at Albany.

Frank Turner is scoring 13.3 points per contest to lead the Golden Griffins, who are averaging just 58.4 points as a team.
