Tennessee hoping to avoid threes vs. Belmont

Dec 20, 2008 - 3:15 PM Belmont (4-3) at No. 19 Tennessee (7-2), 3:00 p.m. EST

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- No. 19 Tennessee aims for its 36th consecutive home win on Saturday when it hosts cross-state rival Belmont.

Tennessee has faced a tough stretch recently, facing three opponents ranked inside the top 25 during its last five games, losing twice over that span.

Then-No. 10 Gonzaga made 11-of-20 (55 percent) 3-pointers, handing the Volunteers their first loss, 83-74, on November 30.

Temple also victimized Tennessee from long range, draining 8-of-20 (40 percent) from beyond the arc en route to an 88-72 victory last Saturday.

The Volunteers have held the opposition to 28 percent shooting from 3-point range in its seven wins and will look to return to that form against Belmont.

The Bruins have won back-to-back contests, including an 82-69 triumph over Middle Tennessee State on Wednesday. They rank sixth in the nation in 3-point shooting, connecting on 43 percent from beyond the arc this campaign.
