After tough loss, Texas looking to avoid consecutive setbacks

Dec 23, 2008 - 11:10 AM No. 8 Texas (9-2) at Wisconsin (9-2) 9:30 p.m. EST

MADISON, Wisconsin (Ticker) -- Eighth-ranked Texas looks to avoid its first set of back-to-back losses when it visits Wisconsin on Tuesday.

Durrell Summers drilled a 3-pointer with 18 seconds remaining Saturday as then-No. 22 Michigan State upset Texas, 67-63, at the Toyota Center.

The Longhorns left Summers wide-open in the right corner and they paid for it as the basket by the sophomore guard put Michigan State ahead, 65-63. It was the game's 16th lead change.

Texas set up for the tie, but Justin Mason missed a jumper from the corner. Summers added a pair from the line with one-tenth of a second remaining to secure the Spartans' third straight win over Texas.

The Longhorns have not endured two straight losses since December 22 and 29 last season, when they suffered setbacks to Michigan State and Wisconsin in consecutive games.

The Badgers have won each of their last three games, including a 57-46 triumph over Coppin State on Saturday.

Jon Leuer led the way against Coppin, pouring in 16 points off the bench. Marcus Landry, Wisconsin's top scorer on the season, added 11 points and added four assists.
