UConn opens conference play against Georgetown

Dec 29, 2008 - 6:04 PM No. 8 Georgetown (9-1) at No. 2 Connecticut (11-0), 7:00 p.m. EST

HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Connecticut went unbeaten through its slate of non-conference games. Now comes the more difficult Big East Conference.

The second-ranked Huskies host No. 8 Georgetown in the Big East opener for both teams on Monday.

Connecticut has won its games by an average of 21.1 points, but the Big East is likely to give the Huskies more challenges on a consistent basis. There are currently eight teams ranked in the Top 25.

Jeff Adrien had 21 points and 14 rebounds and Hasheem Thabeet added 20, 11 and six blocks as UConn defeated Fairfield, 75-55, on Friday.

The Huskies front line will be up against an red-hot Hoyas squad, who have won their last six games. Georgetown crushed Florida International, 76-38, last Tuesday.

DaJuan Summers leads four players in double figures at 14.3 points per game.

Four Huskies are scoring at least 10 points per game, led by Jerome Dyson at 15.5.

This is the only regular-season meeting between the two teams this season. Georgetown won the only meeting last season, 72-69, on Roy Hibbert's game-winning 3-pointer with five seconds remaining.
