Unbeaten Minnesota hosts Michigan State

Dec 31, 2008 - 1:17 PM No. 15 Michigan State (9-2) at No. 21 Minnesota (12-0), 12:00 p.m. EST

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- It did not take Minnesota coach Tubby Smith very long to make his imprint on the school.

The 21st-ranked Golden Gophers hope to stay unbeaten when they host No. 15 Michigan State in the Big Ten Conference opener for both teams on Wednesday.

In the midst of his second season on the sidelines, Smith has guided Minnesota to its best start since the school began 13-0 in the 1948-49 season.

The Golden Gophers are 10-0 at home this season, including Sunday's 82-56 pounding of High Point.

Lawrence Westbrook leads a balanced attack with 13 points per game for Minnesota, which was swept in the season series with Michigan State last season.

The Spartans come in on a five-game winning streak, which includes Saturday's 82-66 victory over Oakland.

Raymar Morgan is averaging 15.3 points per game, but the junior has been held to eight points in each of the last two contests.
