Michigan State looks to keep rolling

Jan 3, 2009 - 1:46 PM No. 15 Michigan State (10-2) at Northwestern (8-3), 7:00 p.m. EST

EVANSTON, Illinois (Ticker) -- After a slow start to the season, Michigan State has turned things around.

The 15th-ranked Spartans go for their seventh straight win Saturday when they visit Northwestern.

Michigan State (10-2, 1-0 Big Ten) suffered a pair of double-digit defeats to Maryland and North Carolina earlier in the season, but has recovered nicely with six straight wins since the 98-63 embarrassing loss to the Tar Heels.

Sophomore Kalin Lucas scored a career-high 24 points as the Spartans posted a 70-58 victory at previously unbeaten Minnesota on Wednesday.

Raymar Morgan is averaging 14.8 points and 6.3 rebounds to lead Michigan State, which has won 11 straight meetings with Northwestern. The Wildcats' last win in the series was on February 6, 2002.

Northwestern (8-3, 0-1) dropped its conference opener, 61-57, at Penn State on Wednesday.

Junior Kevin Coble is leading the team in scoring for the third straight season at 14.3 points per game.
