Michigan hosts Illinois in Big Ten matchup
Jan 4, 2009 - 2:24 PM Illinois (13-1) at No. 24 Michigan (10-3), 12:00 p.m. ESTANN ARBOR, Michigan (Ticker) -- No. 24 Michigan aims for its first conference win when it hosts Illinois on Sunday.
The Wolverines (10-3, 0-1 Big Ten), who have equaled their win total from all of last season, dropped their conference opener to Wisconsin, 73-61, on Wednesday.
Manny Harris leads Michigan in scoring at 19 points per game, but the sophomore was held in check against the Badgers. Harris netted nine points on 3-of-13 shooting.
Coming off its worst season since 1999, Illinois (13-1, 1-0) has gotten off to a fast start.
The Fighting Illini are on a seven-game winning streak and are coming off a 71-67 overtime victory at No. 11 Purdue on Tuesday.
Mike Tisdale scored 18 points in the win and is one of four players leading Illinois in scoring at 12.1 per game. Trent Meacham, Mike Davis and Demetri McCamey are also averaging 12.1 points per contest.
The teams split the two meetings last season.
