Georgetown continues grueling stretch vs. Notre Dame

Jan 5, 2009 - 5:31 PM No. 10 Georgetown (10-2) at No. 13 Notre Dame (10-3) 7:00 p.m. EST

SOUTH BEND, Indiana (Ticker) -- While there is no such thing as an easy slate in the country's toughest conference, it appears the schedule makers were extra cruel to Georgetown.

The 10th-ranked Hoyas complete a brutal three-game stretch Monday when they take on No. 13 Notre Dame in a Big East showdown.

Picked seventh in the coaches' preseason poll, Georgetown faced the daunting task of playing three of the league's top four teams, according to the poll. After capturing a relatively easy win over then-No. 2 Connecticut, 74-63, last Monday, the Hoyas faded late in a 70-54 road loss to then-No. 3 Pittsburgh.

DaJuan Summers scored 22 to lead Georgetown and freshman sensation Greg Monroe added 15 points and eight boards. However the rest of the squad shot 5-of-27 from the field, including 2-of-14 from 3-point range for 17 points.

Following its tilt with the Fighting Irish, the Hoyas get a respite of sorts against Providence on Saturday before contests against a pair of top teams, Syracuse and Duke, next week.

Notre Dame is coming off a surprising loss against St. John's Saturday. The Red Storm were picked 14th in the poll but pulled the upset in part by holding a 40-27 rebounding edge.

Luke Harangody recorded another double-double, his eighth of the season, with 28 points and 14 rebounds.

Tory Jackson added 14 and Kyle McAlarney was held more than six points below his season average, scoring 10 points on 4-of-12 shooting.
