Oklahoma rolls with Capel out

Jan 6, 2009 - 7:14 AM NORMAN, Oklahoma (Ticker) -- Blake Griffin had 20 points and 16 rebounds to lead No. 6 Oklahoma to a 100-64 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday night.

The Sooners played the game without coach Jeff Capel, who was hospitalized earlier Monday with the stomach flu.

Assistant coach Mark Cline took over coaching duties in a game that turned into one final rout before the Sooners (14-1) start Big 12 Conference play on Saturday at Kansas State.

"I was down (at the hospital) today to see him. He looks good," Cline said. "I am expecting them to let him out tomorrow, Wednesday at the latest."

Griffin recorded his 12th double-double of the season and added four blocks in just 22 minutes.

Tony Crocker and Willie Warren scored 15 points each for the Sooners, who led 48-22 at the half.

"The one disappointing thing tonight was Maryland Eastern Shore was averaging 17 offensive rebounds a game. We talked about that because they miss shots and they got 26 on us," Cline said. "We can't go to Kansas State and give up 26 offensive rebounds or next Monday night against Texas."

Neal Pitt led the Hawks (1-9) with 18 points.
