Curry, Davidson look to knock off Duke at Cameron

Jan 7, 2009 - 11:34 AM Davidson (10-2) at No. 2 Duke (12-1) 7:00 p.m. EST

DURHAM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- After missing out on two previous opportunities for a marquee win during its non-conference schedule, Davidson has the ultimate chance when it visits second-ranked Duke on Wednesday.

Led by the country's leading scorer in Stephen Curry, the Wildcats are off to a 3-0 start in Southern Conference play. However, they dropped a pair of road contests against ranked teams, leaving their meeting with the Blue Devils as a last chance to impress a national audience.

Then-No 14 Oklahoma nipped Davidson, 82-78, on November 18 despite 44 points from Curry. Purdue, which was ranked 18th at the time, held the junior to 13 points on 5-of-26 shooting in a 76-58 victory on December 20.

Curry, who scored 21 in a 76-55 win over Samford on Saturday, is averaging 29.2 points a game, while Andrew Lovedale has contributed 12.8 and 9.6 rebounds per contest.

The Blue Devils are coming off a brilliant defensive performance in their Atlantic Coast Conference opener, lifting themselves to their highest ranking of the season. Virginia Tech managed just 13 second-half points as Duke cruised to a 69-44 victory on Sunday.

Kyle Singler continues to lead the Blue Devils in points (16.5), rebounds (7.8) and assists (3.7). The sophomore had 19, eight and seven in the win over the Hokies, with Gerald Henderson adding 15 points and eight boards.

Duke looks to continue a recent stretch of dominance over its in-state rival, having won 21 straight over Davidson, including a 79-73 triumph last season.
